Match Reports
U15 | Bridlington 57 v 38 Malton & Norton
Injury & unavailability meant that a much depleted Malton & Norton
side made the trip to Bridlington, Brid very kindly donated a player
and the girls played 6 a side rugby.  Coach David McDowell gave a
rousing team talk at half time which raised the girls enabling them to
come from being 38-19 down, to being within one try and conversion
short of Brid.  However Brid managed to stay ahead by gaining two more
tries and conversions before the final whistle.

Lorna Cumming making her debut along with Hooker Ashley McDowell
impressed with their mauling and rucking, ripping the ball several
times from the Brid offence.  Winger Poppy Scott easily ran in two
tries with Brid seemingly having no answer to Poppy's speed and tackled
anyone who came her way, Tatyana Heard showed that beside her
aggressive tackling she could also get forward with the ball and scored
her first try of the season.
Ellie Raines, standing in as captain for the injured Rachi Lund put in
an amazing all round performance, scoring 3 tries and kicking 4 of her
6 conversions.

Malton & Norton RUFC girls are always on the look out for new players,
Any girls in school years 8, 9, 10 & 11 wishing to come down are very
welcome, We train on Monday nights at The Gannock from 7pm onwards and
all you need to bring are shorts, boots and a gum shield.

U15 | Malton & Norton 17 v 5 Lichfield

Back
: Becky Waites, Jess Harrison, Rachel Hooper, Sarah Wilkes, Emily Wilkes, Sarah Clough, Fay Chappel, Hannah Simms, & Kim Turton.
Front: Ashleigh McDowell, Becky Ingram, Bianca Blackburn, Poppy Scott, Ellie Raines, Rachel Lund (captain), Tatyana Heard & Stephanie Manton.

After a frosty start to the day with two scheduled boys matches being
cancelled, a good crowd of supporters stayed down to watch the first
ever competitive girls rugby match at The Gannock on Sunday 17th
February.

Malton started off well with some good passing in the backs enabling
team captain Rachi Lund, playing at Full Back to exploit the gaps and
run in her first try of the match. Poppy Scott used her blistering pace
to easily outrun the Lichfield defence on the right wing and score
under the uprights enabling Fly half Ellie Raines to easily convert it.

Lichfield's pack managed to rumble towards their try line and Carys
Williams scored their only try of the game. After a Lichfield kick,
Rachi Lund gathered up the ball and sped down the right wing from deep
inside Malton's half, easily outrunning the opposition and scoring her
second try of the afternoon.

Malton's tackling was committed and at times quite destructive towards
the Lichfield attacking forwards, Tatyana Heard, Ellie Raines and Becky
Waites being the pick of the tacklers. Ashleigh McDowell following in
her Dad's footsteps as hooker along with No 8 Sarah Clough kept the
pack together.

Player of the match was scrum half Bianca Blackburn who gave a great
performance. Both the home and visiting supporters thoroughly enjoyed
their afternoon's rugby commenting on the levels of committment and
skills shown by the girls. All in all an excellent performance for the
girls and one which they can be immensely proud of.

U18 | Yorkshire 27 v 5 East Region
Emma Dwyer playing for Yorkshire U18's in her first Regional
appearance played on the Right Wing in a game which proved that the
Yorkshire U18's are a force to be reckoned with by convincingly beating
the East Region 27-5.

U15 | Yorkshire 5 v 25 East Region
On Sunday 10th February five Malton & Norton RUFC girls travelled over
to Dinnington RUFC to represent the region of Yorkshire in a key
national competition against the as yet, unbeaten East Region which is
comprised of girls from the counties of Hertfordshire, Essex and the
Eastern Counties of Cambridgeshire, Norfolk & Suffolk.
Yorkshire U15's gave their finest performance yet and although the
final  score was 25-5 in East Region's favour, the score does not truly
reflect the game and the Yorkshire girls should be extremely pleased
with their performance.

Rachi Lund playing at Outside Centre for most of the game, ran some
excellent lines cutting through the East's defense and was very
unfortunate after switching to the right wing, to have a try disallowed
in the dying seconds of the game.
Ellie Raines playing some excellent rugby at Inside Centre both
tackling  and making breaks in attack and showing what an important
asset she is to the side.
Any of the attacking opposition hedging their bets on scoring easy
tries by taking on the small one out on the right wing were taken aback
at the ferocity of Tatyana Heard's tackling.  Ashleigh McDowell came on
after the break as Hooker, her time on the pitch was limited due to
injuries received during a scrum collapse - however, she can be proud
of the performance she gave.
